A captivating article to admire and enjoy, this little dancing shoe transmits the era of the flapper. This style danced the Charleston at Gatsbys and was noticed during cocktails at Downton Abbey. It would have been constructed of carmine red and jet black patent leather, with cut steel ornament on the toe and strap and had an angular Spanish heel.
Each of the shoes in my History of Shoes collection is a three-dimensional, finely sculptured miniature, entirely manufactured in our Los Angeles studio..Note the photo with the coin to show size and scale. Cast in jewelry metal and ornamented in enamels and fine crystal, they are vehicles of imagination and escape like the shoes in fairy tales. You will receive one shoe nestled inside a box suitable for gifting.
We are also offering the shoe stand which I designed after the ones at Wanamaker's department store in New York circa 1915. The store, at 9th and Broadway was called 'the shoppers paradise' and its shoe department was a large part of the magic.
The inspiration... Rising hemlines of the 1920s raised eyebrows. Exposing first the ankle, then the knee, shoes were made plainly visible. They became a central article of fashion, designed to match apparel and change with the seasons. Elevated heels accentuated the female silhouette in motion, whether a seductive stride or a dance floor routine.
