This is a photo of my parents, Bettie and Dick Aitkins on their wedding day, May 16, 1959. They met at Boeing Field in Seattle where he was a flight engineer for Flying Tiger Airlines and she a ticket agent for Northwest Airlines. They were married one year after their first date. We celebrated their 50th anniversary last May 17th with a big party of family and all their longtime friends at the Boeing Museum of Flight in Seattle. It was a wonderful celebration of fifty years of true love. from Kim. E., Arlington, WA |

This is my Dear Mother Pauline who is now about to turn 93 on July 7th. She loves to tell everyone her birth date of 7-7-17, " Lucky Sevens". On her 90th birthday I had this photo blown up to 8 X 11 and put on long sticks so when we went to sing Happy Birthday, we held up these photos in front of our faces. Great fun for all! All six of us children were born and raised in Detroit , but this photo was taken on August 4, 1961 at the Pike in Long Beach, California on vacation. Very fond memories! from Cheryl I., Royal Oak, MI

This is a photo of my mom Elsa. I believe it was her engagement photo taken in the late 1930's. I never saw the photo until after her death when my dad gave me a box of old photos. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She was the gentlest and most loving person. Everyone who knew her was touched by her loving ways and spirit. Her favorite bird was the bluebird because it represented happiness. from Judy G., Rutherford, NJ |

This is a photo of my mother Eva taken on her 17th birhday in 1942. My father told us that my mother tricked him into marrying her by sending him this photo. I love this photo of my mother from Belen G., San Juan Capistrano, CA |

This
is a photo of my grandmother, Fannie Louise Channell. It was taken when
she was 16 years old around 1903. Wasn't she utterly beautiful? from Jeanne N., Rockingham, NC |
| My parents, Clara Mae and Gene, were married in December 1943 in East Lansing Michigan, while my father attended officer training school for the army air corps. This photo, taken hours after their wedding, shows daddy, dashing in his uniform, and mother, looking stylish in her skunk coat. The movie they saw on their honeymoon was "Casablanca", of course. from Marcia M., Colorado Springs, CO | | |
My mom and dad came from families
of different religious backgrounds and her parents didn't approve of
the relationship. But they were young, madly in love and determined to
marry. This photo was taken in the home of my Mom's oldest sister just
after they eloped in 1955. My aunt and uncle were in on the conspiracy!
I treasure this snapshot. If they'd obeyed the wishes of their parents
and split up, I wouldn't be here today. Nor would my two fantastic
sisters. from Theresa C., Stuart, FL

mom and dad - Pete and Jessie - fell in love in San Antonio, TX while
my dad was in training to be a fighter pilot, USAF. He traveled a lot
and was gone for long periods of time. This photo was taken in New
Mexico in 1958. They're standing in front of our new pink Buick station
wagon. Mom, a creative soul, painted and wrote poetry when she could
while raising four children. from Anne K., Tampa, FL
| This picture is of my Mom and Dad when they got engaged in 1953. They''re both gone now but I love the picture; my dad''s arm around my mom''s shoulder, my mom likely had a cigarette in her other hand but she quit when she was pregnant with me. They were married in 1954 and together 43 years. from Karen T., Las Vegas, NM Shelley's notes: Fashion fare in the fab '50s was beads and pearls. Here's a classic example. | | | A
photo of my parents, taken while on their honeymoon in New York City in
1936. There were photographers on the street that would take your photo
and then sell it to you. As you can see, they were a dapper pair,
dressed in the fashion of the times. from Elaine E., Norwalk, CT Shelley's
notes: The tailored lines of military uniforms influenced fashions of
the late 1930s-40s. When this photo was taken, there were already
millions of enlisted Americans. WWII Airplane Pins
| This is my grandmother and grandfather, Grace and Archie of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin in a photo taken before they were married in 1912. My mother was born a year later.
